The construction of a ship is incredibly difficult and expensive, especially given that the asset may be used for decades in a changing economic and legal context. Its design must take into account its function, the expected area of operation, and the projected long-term regulatory landscape. Designing ships with a strong emphasis on environmental performance is becoming more and more common. This is especially true when it comes to lowering greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, autonomous ships are being investigated, and numerous pilot projects are already in the planning stages.
Prefabricated pieces are widely used in contemporary shipbuilding. The hull or superstructure will be constructed in large, multi-deck sections that will be carried to the dock or slipway for construction, then lifted into place.
